Eminent archaeologist and author, Dr Peter Harbison,RIA, leads this tour taking you through the impressiveruins at the early Christian settlement of Mainistir Bhuithe (monastery of Buithe), Monasterboice, which date from the 5th century. Visit some of the tallest high crosses in Ireland, including the magnificent Muiredach’s Cross (10th century), which features narrative biblical iconography from the Old and New Testament, and is arguably one of Ireland’s most important contributions to the history of early Christian art. The tour will close with a short performance by celebrated Co. Louth uileann piper, Darragh Ó Héiligh.
