St Laurence’s Gate is widely regarded as one of the finest of its kind in Europe. On a clear day, the top of the gate boasts views of up to four miles along the Boyne and out to sea, making it the perfect stronghold of the Anglo-Normans. Climb to the top of this fourteenth century barbican after County Louth Heritage Officer, Brendan McSherry, and Community Historian Brendan Matthews share their knowledge on this outstanding structure. While drinking in the views from the gate, visitors can also enjoy a taste of the Fleadh, with performances from traditional musicians, all against this historic backdrop of Drogheda’s oldest structure.
