DESCRIPTION:*Due to circumstances beyond our control Unique Voices in Poetry will now be moved to an online event!*\nKeep an eye out for more details TBA\nJoin us for an intimate event with two poets published by independent west of Ireland publisher Doire Press. The themes of love\, sensuality and the body feature heavily in the work of Dimitra Xidous\, while Moyra Donaldson’s collections Carnivorous and Bone House explore myth\, motherhood and grief. Both poets will read from their work and will be interviewed. The evening will be moderated by award winning poet Jessica Traynor. \nDimitra Xidous is a poet and writer living and working permanently in Ireland since 2011. In 2019\, she was awarded a Markievicz Bursary for (S)worn State(s)\, a poetry collaboration with Kimberly Campanello and Annemarie Ní Churreáin. Her poems and essays have appeared in gorse\, The Stinging Fly\, Room Magazine and The Dalhousie Review. Her collaboration with Irish-based artist and printmaker Ria Czerniak-LeBov\, (M)other\, M(other)\, is forthcoming from gorse editions. Keeping Bees\, her debut poetry collection\, was published by Doire Press in 2014 and Μηδέν | Oὐδέν was published in 2020. \nMoyra Donaldson is an award-winning and critically-acclaimed poet and creative writing facilitator from County Down. In 2019 she was awarded a prestigious Major Individual Artist Award from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. She has published seven collections of poetry\, including a Selected Poems\, and her awards include the Women’s National Poetry Competition\, The Allingham Award\, Cúirt New Writing Award\, North West Words Poetry Award and the Belfast Year of the Writer Award. She has also been widely published in magazines\, journals and anthologies in Europe\, Australia and the USA. Her poems have featured on BBC radio and television\, on American national radio and television\, and she has read at festivals in Europe\, Canada and America. Her collections Carnivorous and Bone House are published by Doire Press.\n \nJessica Traynor is an award-winning poet\, creative writing teacher and dramaturg from Dublin. Her debut collection\, Liffey Swim (Dedalus Press\, 2014)\, was shortlisted for the Strong/Shine Award and was named one of the best poetry debuts of the past five years on Bustle.com. In 2019\, she co-edited book Correspondences: an anthology to call for an end to direct provision with actor Stephen Rea\, bringing together asylum seekers in Ireland’s direct provision system with Irish writers.
