SUMMARY:Spoken Word: Stories inspired by hometowns\, rage\, love and van-life
DESCRIPTION:Drogheda Arts Festival welcomes artists Dagogo Hart\, Jan Brierton and Fran Cassidy for an evening of spoken word\, hosted by writer and curator Dani Gill.  \nDagogo Hart is a Dublin based poet\, writer\, and spoken word artist whose words have wowed audiences from bar basements to electric picnic stages. He started performing in Dublin in 2016 in open mics and poetry slams\, which saw him win the Slam Sunday grand slam and become an All Ireland poetry slam finalist. Since then he has performed for festivals like Electric Picnic\, St. Patricks\, Dublin Fringe\, Drogheda literary festival\, Cuirt International Poetry Festival\, and First fortnight. He is one-third of the collective WeAreGriot; A poetry collective that curates art events around poetry. His personal works include; The Home Project (a series of poetry films)\, RedBeard Paddy (a poetry short film)\, See True (a spoken word variety show) and Boy Child (a spoken-word play)\, the last two co-written with FeliSpeaks\, Talkatives;  a hip-hop and poetry slam as part of WeAreGriot. His poetry is inspired by his hometown in Lagos\, Nigeria\, and his experience since moving to Ireland. Dagogo recently performed as part Droichead Arts Centre’s Solo programme. \nJan Brierton is a freelance fashion stylist from Dublin. When COVID restrictions led Jan to assume the full-time role of teacher\, playground chaperone\, cook\, cleaner and general entertainer she was inspired to write and share a poem about her experience. Her first book What Day Is It? Who gives a f*ck\, a collection of her lockdown poems\, was published in June 2021 by New Island Books. Before the COVID-19 global pandemic\, Dubliner Jan was working as a freelance fashion stylist and creative director. Now\, she is an experienced home school teacher\, playground chaperone\, cook\, cleaner\, fed-up walker and kitchen disco DJ. What Day Is It? Who gives a f*ck expresses all the rage\, loss\, fun and love that have stunned and occupied us since March 2020. \nFran Cassidy is an award-winning filmmaker\, photographer and poet from Dublin. His candid\, sometimes humorous narrative poetry is influenced by a punk ethic. His work incorporates experiences growing up in Ireland in the 1970s and 80s\, decades in Dublin city centre working in drugs and homeless services\, living full time in his van\, travelling to festivals\, the joys of league of Ireland football\, and most recently his time as a full-time carer for his elderly parents in their final years. He currently lives and travels with his beautiful rescue lurcher Dicey who keeps him pretty much on the straight and narrow. \nDani Gill\, writer and curator\, and Artistic Director of Ennis Book Festival\,  and known for her work nationally as the Director of The Lighthouse Project\, Match in the Dark.  Previous roles include Artistic Director of Cuirt International Festival of Literature Galway.   Dani is also curator for the LIVE Network\, and is the Literature Audience Development Officer for the Droichead Arts Centre. Her poetry collection After Love was made into a stage show that premiered at the Galway International Arts Festival in 2021 and will tour in Ireland and America in 2023.  \nBOOK NOW

SUMMARY:Behind Locked Doors | Quintessence Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Quintessence Theatre return to the live stage with an original dark drama exploring the shadow pandemics of Ireland’s lockdown: domestic violence and parental alienation. \nLockdown. Locked up. Locked in. No way out. No way in… \nQuintessence Theatre in association with Droichead Arts Centre\, An Táin Arts Centre and Drogheda Arts Festival\, proudly present\, Behind Locked Doors. \nBehind Locked Doors first premiered as a short digital mini-series in Drogheda Arts Festival 2021. The live stage production will have its world premiere at Droichead Arts Centre as part of Drogheda Arts Festival 2022. \nBased on true stories from lockdown 2020\, Quintessence introduces you to two neighbours who find themselves unable to leave their homes in Drogheda due to national Covid restrictions. One just wants to feel safe in her own home. The other just wants to see his children. \nEach performance will be followed by a post show discussion with the director\, cast\, and a representative from Women’s Aid and Treoir. \nAudience Reactions from their mini-series as part of Drogheda Arts Festival 2021 programme. \n“Powerful … Words Fail Me” \n“Unmissable” \n“Compelling” \n“Heart Shatteringly Brilliant” \n“Moving” \n  \nThe Company \nQuintessence seeks to explore the human condition through the most theatrical means available to us: the actor themselves\, and their imagination. We seek to surprise\, move and provoke our audiences\, entertaining them and creating dynamic\, innovative\, visceral and compassionate storytelling that touches on issues at the heart of Irish society here and now. \n  \nSome previous productions by Quintessence Theatre include: Cracks (Islandwide Tour 2018); Dracula (2017 & 2018 – Winner Broadway World’s BEST NEW PLAY 2018); The Star of Chester’s Lane (Commission of Drogheda Arts Festival 2018 & National Tour 2021) & The Curious Case of Albert Cashier: Lincoln’s Lady Soldier (March 2020).  Albert Cashier is the  remarkable true story of a Trans soldier (originally from Clogherhead\, Co Louth) who fought in the American Civil War.  Quintessence hope to tour with this production at some point in the near future. \n  \nDrogheda Arts Festival welcomes the return of Quintessence to Droichead Arts Centre for this long anticipated live show; Behind Locked Doors. \n  \nIn line with government guidelines\, we are slowly easing restrictions and increasing our venue capacity in a safe and considered way.  Audiences may choose to wear masks but it is not mandatory.
